When we are in Delhi, it has become a ritual that we always visit Chandi Chowk , very Old Delhi’s pulsing heart.  A maze of narrow alleys only accessible by foot or rickshaw and shaded by a network of electric wires (some live). It is a treasure trove of everything you don’t need, but want. A minimialist nightmare and a fantastic assault on the senses. Delhi at it’s most intense!  We LOVE it.

Must visits are; Kinari Bazaar for all things shiny and glittery, this is the Indian Wedding Dress go to market, you can purchase trimmings, ribbons and lots of sequins, Dariba Street for jewellery and Khari Baoli, the wholesale spice and flower market.

It is a fantastic, sensory overload wonderland, we always need a bit of a lie down/regroup back at the hotel after a visit down into Chandi Chowk.

Chandi Chowk 5

Going through some old pics and stumbled on this one, block printer in Jaipur.  We are back into it after a well earned break.  Brain is sprinting ahead…and have lots to look forward to.

First and foremost, our trip to India mid February, we are madly finalising patterns, colour palettes and most importantly where to stay.  This year we have booked two nights at the very gracious Samode Haveli, exceeding our usual budget, but a fantastic end to our trip.

Also, looking forward to completing a gorgeous Australian Merino Wool range of ponchos, wraps and scarves for winter.  Simple styles embracing an easy to wear colour palette which of course includes some gorgeous Read&Bell pink. The wool arrived in India two weeks ago, and is currently being milled and will be ready for dying next week. Expected arrival in Sydney, end of March…fingers crossed

Can’t wait to share it all with you.  Here are a few pics of some press we received recently from the lovely team at Fete Press in their summer issue.  Love this magazine, it is created by two very creative girls based in South Australia.   They have been around for about as long as us, so feel a bit of an affiliation and we have lots in common…travel/fashion/food and family.

Can’t believe we have been back from fabulous India for nearly three weeks! It is always such an intense experience and coupled with catching a bit of a virus, it has taken us a bit longer to reaclimatise to life back in Sydney! We are though now firing with nearly eight cylinders and back on deck!

It was as usual a fantastic trip and we have some gorgeous pieces on their way as we write. Look forward to vintage Banjara clutches and bags in great new sizes and designs. The finest woollen scarves adorned with sequins and glitter (love a bit of bling). Hand dyed ombre woollen scarves. Hand loomed and embroidered tassel silk/cotton scarves. The scarves come in gorgeous pink, navy, taupe, charcoal and chartreuse. We also have some super soft fine wool ponchos and ombre navy cotton ponchos. We are also madly assembling beads with vintage coins, hands of protection, happiness pendants and tassels. Some very cool Indigo padded jackets, the spotty ones are very funky. And this is just for winter. Team these with our white cotton embroidered shirts and tunics, we will all look the part!

For summer, our blockprinters are madly printing onto fine cotton voile a fantastic palette of grey, navy, pink and aqua. Not only are we doing dresses and tunics this year, but some pants and a few other surprise pieces.

Have to share where we stayed in Delhi. Accommodation in Delhi is always a challenge, but we think we have finally found a place that suits and is a good price. It is located in Hauz Kas, a bit of a travel from central Delhi, but worth it as there are lots of great little places to eat, shop and hang out. The hotel is owned by a Japanese woman and a French man, and the aesthetic really reflects this; it is a simple light filled space with accents of pastel pinks, greens and blues and fantastic artwork. There is a great cafe, art gallery and spa as well. www.therosenewdelhi.com/.

Love Jaipur, how can you not. Discovered a great new bar/restaurant in the grounds of Narain Niwas Palace Hotel called Palladio…super chic. Here are a few pics! You should also check out a new place called Jaipur Modern, very groovy cafe and shop.

Stay posted for May Trunk Sale details – May 1-4 at our studio.

We are back in Sydney, and already missing the beautiful Pink City of Jaipur. It really gets under your skin. We had a fantastic trip. The weather was divine, 23 during the day, dropping to about 15 at night. Definitely the best time of year to be there, if they would move the Jaipur Literature Festival forward a month, it would be perfect.

We are having some beautiful fabrics made up into our dresses and tunics, we have chosen a palette of navy, white, watermelon and a touch of emerald. Printing has started. We also found some gorgeous one off pieces; fabulous clutch and shoulder bags, more Bengali scarves in new designs, some truly divine throws for winter and vintage Indian silver. Will keep you up to speed as they arrive. Loving all these marigolds and flowers. In a very Beatles inspired “Love You to” moment, couldn’t help but wear them sometimes!

FYI, Marigolds are the sacred herb of Hinduism.
