Read & Bell is Tory Read and Anne Bell. Designed in Sydney and made in Jaipur and Kolkata, we create slow fashion, inspired by the unique nature of the handmade. Fusing the colours of a vibrant Pink City spice market with the muted hues of the Australian landscape, our pieces are designed for effortless living and everyday adventures.
The ancient art of hand block-printing is unique to Jaipur. Chippas, a caste of printers, stamp lengths of cotton fabric with colour using hand-carved wood blocks. Taught this trade by their parents, who were, in turn, taught by theirs — each generation working almost exactly as the one before, going back at least 300 years.
We only print on organic cotton, which is breathable and comfortable to wear. All of our cotton is GOTS certified, meaning that our farmers work to the highest ethical and
environmental standards, with no use of pesticides or any other harmful chemicals.
